Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information Halal 360 (the “App”) and our website at Halal 360.web.app (the “Site”) collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using Halal 360 you agree to the practices described here.

About Halal 360

Halal 360 is a mobile application that helps you understand food products. It provides:

  • Barcode scanner: scan a product barcode to look up available product information.
  • Ingredient label scanner: photograph an ingredient list and have the text read from the image.
  • Manual check: type or paste a product name and ingredient list yourself.
  • Ingredient and additive information: including a built-in reference guide of food additives and E-numbers.
  • Nutrition information: nutrition facts, Nutri-Score and NOVA processing level where available.
  • Saved products, scan history and a grocery list: personal lists you build inside the App.
  • Product reports: an optional way to tell us that product information looks incorrect or incomplete.

Halal 360 does not require an account. There is no sign-up, and the App never asks for your name, email address or a profile. The App signs in anonymously in the background so that features such as product reports can work. The one place we ask for a name and an email address is the contact form on the Site — because we cannot write back otherwise.

Information we collect

a) Information stored on your device

The following stays on your device and is not uploaded to us:

  • Scan history and saved products: the products you have checked and chosen to keep.
  • Grocery list: items and quantities you add.
  • Your preferences: selected language, theme, madhhab, per-additive preferences and app settings.

You can clear this data at any time from Settings inside the App, and it is removed when you uninstall the App.

b) Information you choose to send us

  • Product reports: if you report a product, we receive the product identifier, the details you describe and an anonymous identifier so we can show you the status of your own report.
  • Support and feedback: anything you include when you contact us by email.
  • Website contact form: if you write to us from Halal 360.web.app/contact, we receive the name and email address you enter, the topic you select, your message, and your browser’s language setting so we can try to reply in it. The form does not collect your IP address, and there is nothing else attached to the message.

The Site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or trackers. Pages are plain files with self-hosted fonts, so simply reading Halal 360.web.app sends nothing to anyone. The only time the Site contacts a server is the moment you press Send on the contact form.

c) Information collected automatically

  • Device and diagnostic information: device type, operating system version, app version, crash reports and performance data.
  • Advertising identifiers: used by our advertising partner as described in section 6.

d) Information from third parties

  • Product database: product names, brands, barcodes, ingredients, nutrition data, labels and images are retrieved from Open Food Facts, an open collaborative food database. When you scan a barcode, that barcode is sent to Open Food Facts to look up the product.

Camera and photos

Halal 360 uses your camera only to scan barcodes and to read ingredient labels. Barcode detection and label text recognition run on your device. Images captured or selected for scanning are not uploaded to our servers and are not stored by us. If you choose an existing photo instead of taking a new one, the App accesses only the image you select.

How we use information

  • To operate the App’s core features: scanning, product lookup, ingredient and additive information, nutrition information and your personal lists.
  • To classify ingredients and additives, and to apply the madhhab you have selected.
  • To process and respond to product reports.
  • To read and answer messages sent through the website contact form. We use the name and email address you give us to reply to you and for nothing else — no newsletter, no marketing, and we never pass them on.
  • To diagnose crashes, fix problems and improve the App.
  • To display advertising, as described in section 6.

Service providers

We use a small number of third-party services to run the App:

Google Firebase (Hosting & Firestore)Serving Halal 360.web.app and storing contact-form messagesThe message you submit, with the name and email address you entered

We do not sell, trade or rent your information. We may disclose information where required by law, to protect the rights and safety of Halal 360, our users or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.

Advertising

Halal 360 is free and supported by advertising delivered through Google AdMob. Advertising partners may use device and advertising identifiers to select and measure ads.

  • In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we present a consent message before personalised advertising identifiers are used. You can change your choice at any time from Settings → Ad privacy options in the App.
  • On iOS, the App asks for permission before tracking you across apps and websites. If you decline, advertising continues but is not personalised in that way. You can change this in your device’s privacy settings.
  • On Android, you can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.

Data retention

Data stored on your device is kept until you clear it in Settings or uninstall the App. Product reports and the anonymous identifier associated with them are kept for as long as needed to review the report and improve product information. Diagnostic data is retained according to our providers’ standard retention periods.

Contact-form messages are kept for up to 24 months after the conversation ends, so that we can follow up on a correction and recognise a returning question, and are then deleted. You can ask us to delete yours sooner — see section 9.

Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect information, including encryption in transit and secured infrastructure operated by our providers. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live — including under the GDPR in the European Economic Area and the UK — you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

  • Delete your data yourself: Settings → Clear history, Clear cache, or Clear all data.
  • Advertising consent: Settings → Ad privacy options.
  • Everything else: email us and we will help. Because the App uses anonymous sign-in, please include any information that helps us locate the relevant records.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children’s privacy

Halal 360 is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

International transfers

Our service providers may process information in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where required, transfers are made under appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
